Frequently Asked
Work Physicals
Questions

We’re here to make your visit as easy as possible.
Below are answers to common questions about work physicals.

What is a work physical?

A work physical is a medical examination performed to help determine whether an individual is physically able to perform the essential duties of a specific job. Many employers require work physicals before hiring or when an employee returns to work after an illness or injury. Lansing Urgent Care provides comprehensive work physicals for a wide variety of industries and occupations.

Work physicals are commonly required for new employees, healthcare workers, childcare providers, manufacturing employees, warehouse workers, school staff, commercial drivers, and individuals returning to work after an injury or extended medical leave. Your employer will let you know if a physical is required before starting work.

The exact requirements vary by employer, but a work physical typically includes a review of your medical history, vital signs, vision screening, hearing evaluation if required, height and weight measurements, and a physical examination. Depending on your employer’s requirements, additional testing such as drug screening, TB testing, vaccinations, or respirator clearance may also be included.

Yes. Lansing Urgent Care performs pre-employment work physicals for businesses throughout Mid-Michigan. Our occupational health providers work closely with employers to complete required examinations and documentation quickly and accurately so employees can begin work as soon as possible.

Most work physicals are completed in approximately 20 to 30 minutes. If additional testing, vaccinations, or employer-specific documentation is required, your visit may take slightly longer.

Bring a valid photo ID, any employer-provided paperwork, a list of your current medications, glasses or contact lenses if you wear them, and any required medical records or vaccination documentation. Having these items available helps ensure your visit is completed efficiently.

Many Lansing Urgent Care locations accept walk-ins for work physicals, although scheduling an appointment may help reduce your wait time. Employers may also schedule physicals for multiple employees or new hires.

Yes. Depending on your employer’s requirements, your visit may include drug screening, Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT), TB testing, respirator clearance, vaccinations, or other occupational health services. Lansing Urgent Care offers these services in one convenient visit.

Yes. Once your examination is complete, you’ll receive any required documentation, and your employer will receive the appropriate medical forms or clearance according to company policy and applicable privacy regulations.

Lansing Urgent Care offers convenient walk-in availability, multiple Mid-Michigan locations, extended hours seven days a week, and experienced occupational health providers. We help employees complete their work physicals quickly while helping employers keep hiring and onboarding processes running smoothly.
