Frequently Asked
Telemed Questions
We’re here to make your visit as easy as possible.
Below are answers to common questions about Telemed.
What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine allows you to meet with a licensed medical provider through a secure video visit using your smartphone, tablet, or computer. Lansing Urgent Care Telemedicine provides convenient care for many common illnesses and minor medical conditions without requiring you to visit a clinic.
What conditions can be treated through telemedicine?
Telemedicine is appropriate for many non-emergency conditions, including cold and flu symptoms, COVID-19, allergies, sinus infections, sore throat, pink eye, urinary tract infections (UTIs), rashes, minor skin conditions, medication refills (when appropriate), nausea, vomiting, and other common illnesses. Your provider will determine whether virtual care is appropriate based on your symptoms.
How do I schedule a telemedicine visit?
Scheduling a telemedicine appointment is quick and easy. Simply book your virtual visit online, complete the registration process, and connect with a provider using your smartphone, tablet, or computer at your scheduled appointment time.
Can I get a prescription through telemedicine?
Yes. If medically appropriate, your provider can prescribe many medications during your virtual visit and send the prescription electronically to your preferred pharmacy. Certain controlled substances and medications may require an in-person evaluation or cannot be prescribed through telemedicine due to state and federal regulations.
Can children use telemedicine?
Yes. Telemedicine is available for many pediatric illnesses and minor medical concerns. A parent or legal guardian must be present during the virtual visit for patients under the age of 18.
What do I need for a telemedicine appointment?
You’ll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet access, a camera, and a microphone. It’s also helpful to have your photo ID, insurance information, a list of your medications, and any relevant medical history available before your appointment begins.
When should I choose telemedicine instead of visiting urgent care?
Telemedicine is a great option for many minor illnesses and follow-up concerns. However, if you’re experiencing severe pain, difficulty breathing, chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding, a suspected fracture, or any life-threatening emergency, you should seek immediate in-person medical care or call 911.
Can my provider recommend an in-person visit after a telemedicine appointment?
Yes. If your provider determines that you need a physical examination, X-rays, laboratory testing, stitches, or another service that cannot be performed virtually, you’ll be advised to visit one of our Lansing Urgent Care locations or another appropriate healthcare facility.
Is telemedicine covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans cover telemedicine visits, although coverage varies by provider and plan. If you’re unsure about your benefits, our staff can help answer questions about payment options before your appointment.
Why choose Lansing Urgent Care Telemedicine?
Lansing Urgent Care Telemedicine offers fast, convenient access to experienced medical providers from the comfort of your home. With easy online scheduling, flexible appointment times, and electronic prescriptions when appropriate, you can receive quality care without traveling to a clinic for many common illnesses.
